What You Should Know If You've Been Charged With A Crime

If there ever comes a time when you are charged with a crime, there are important things you should know.  Typically, the crime will be classified as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending upon circumstances. California Penal Code Section 17(a) defines a felony as, "a crime that is punishable with death, by imprisonment in the state prison, or notwithstanding any other provision of law, by imprisonment in a county jail under the provisions of subdivision (h) of Section 1170.  Every other crime or public offense is a misdemeanor except those offenses that are classified as infractions."

The effects of being convicted of a crime are wide-reaching and should not be taken lightly.  Having a criminal background may prevent you from maintaining your current employment or obtaining a job in the future.  Having a criminal background may cause problems in obtaining licensing from many of the numerous state or federal agencies (e.g. real estate, nursing, etc.).  Therefore, it is imperative that you take your matter seriously and allow Kirk Law Group to represent you.  Kirk Law Group will provide you with the personal, individualized attention that you have come to expect from our firm.  You won't get lost in the shuffle at Kirk Law Group.

Remember, time is critical in criminal defense matters.  Often, there are only short windows of time within which to preserve certain rights.  For example, when charged with a DUI, you have only days to preserve your right to a DMV hearing.  Do not delay in seeking representation.
